THE 2008 MEMPHIS MUSIC AND HERITAGE FESTIVAL

    Date Posted: 07/25/08
    Organization: Center for Southern Folklore
    City: MEMPHIS

    Description:

The Center for Southern Folklore is assembling a special team of volunteers to help us produce our annual Memphis Music & Heritage Festival on Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, August 30 and 31. We would love to have you join us!

For much of its 21 year history, the Festival was considered one of the best kept secrets in Memphis, but not anymore. Last year’s Festival reached a whole new level as a crowd estimated at over 30,000 enjoyed two days and five stages of the best music this region has to offer including the likes of Bobby Rush, Jason D Williams, Billy Lee Riley, Darrel Petties & SIP, Jim Dickinson, Joyce Cobb, Roscoe Robinson, Sonny Burgess and The Pacers, Eddie Bond's Country Music Show, Blind Mississippi Morris, Big Sam's Funky Nation, Brown Singers, Spirit of Memphis - and this year should be even better!

To be a part of the MMHF phenomenon, we ask that you fill out the volunteer form posted at http://www.memphismusicandheritagefestival.com/2008mmhf.html and send it in. We ask that you attend one of three volunteer orientation meetings - either on July 14, August 4 or August 18 at 6:00 p.m. in the Folklore Hall - where you will meet the Festival staff, learn about the duties involved, and get a background briefing about the Festival. We do insist that our volunteers must attend at least one of these meetings.

Even if you haven’t completed your volunteer form, you are still welcome to attend the volunteer meetings. We will do our best to put this year’s volunteers into positions fitting their desired placement and overall abilities.

As Festival Producer, Judy Peiser, puts it, “With contributions of time, energy and ability coming from all segments of our population, it is our volunteers that make this Festival a truly Memphis/Mid-South experience.” To help coordinate their efforts, we are especially pleased that two long-time friends and supporters of the Festival, Deanna Lubin and Mary Ann Gianinni, will serve as the Festival Volunteer Chairpeople.

Join us and be a part of the best locally produced music festival in town – The Memphis Music and Heritage Festival!
