By Tennessee Williams In a run-down tourist hotel off the coast of Mexico, chance brings together an intriguing assortment of life's victims - characters as sharply drawn and memorable as any that Tennessee Williams conceived - to work out their destiny in one stormy, tropical night.

Assume this student was in the opening night audience, a performance attended by a group of high school students from New Orleans who pretty much dominated the evening with rowdy laughter at everything of a dramatic or sexual nature. Hats off to the excellent cast who weren't thrown by this behavior and played the show as rehearsed and directed. This last great work from perhaps American's greatest playwright certainly isn't being performed for laughs, it's being played for the heart and truth and dispair Williams wrote. Since the writer chose to post anonymously, I can't imagine the origin or cause for such mean-spirited and inaccurate comments but they are certainly in direct contrast to the outstanding response the production has received from other audience members. I usually love the plays at Theatre Memphis but this one only has brief moments where it is good. I expected high drama but most of the audience laughed a lot at this performance and it seemed the cast was playing it for laughs. I was very disappointed. The set was amazing but the acting was poor indeed. Collapse
