The annual Ring Show started in 1977 at the University of Georgia, Athens by Gary Noffke. The first three ring shows are completely intact (including the suitcases they traveled in). The work explored non-traditional forms and materials. The original participants were all students at the time. Thirty years later many of the original artists have become very prominent in the field and have made new rings for 30th anniversary of the show.
