Add Review/CommentDixon Director Kevin Sharp continues his Director's Cut film festival with three great features from the 1940's. His selections from the 1930's, The Thin Man (1934), It Happened One Night (1934), and The Holiday (1938), examined serious Depression-era issues through the lens of sophisticated comedy. As hard times gave way to war-time in the 1940s, America's social concerns changed and so did its appetite for popular entertainment. Kevin's favorite films of the 1940s focus on themes of individual responsibility, and how one person can make a difference. He will offer a brief introduction to each film before screening. The Third Man, 1949 Starring Joseph Cotten, Orson Welles, Alida Valli, and Trevor Howard Directed by Carol Reed Based on the story by Graham Greene, who also wrote the screenplay, and expressionistic view into postwar Vienna's sinister underworld. 104 minutes Free with museum admission. Cash bar and light refreshments.
