Memphis Brooks Museum of Art
The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art enriches the lives of our diverse community through the Museum's expanding collection, varied exhibitions, and dynamic programs that reflect the art of world cultures from antiquity to present. Founded in 1916, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is the oldest and largest fine arts museum in the state of Tennessee, housing one of the most outstanding collections of fine art dating from antiquity to the present. The Museum also hosts world-class traveling exhibitions and several long-term, continuing loans. Located in the heart of Memphis, the Brooks Museum is a dynamic cultural complex consisting of: 29 galleries, art classrooms, a print study room with over 4,500 works of art on paper, a research library with over 5,000 volumes, and an auditorium. Housed in part in the original Beaux-arts style building, a registered U.S. National Landmark, the Brooks' facilities also include the Brooks Museum Store, the acclaimed Brushmark Restaurant, the Holly Court garden, and a grand terrace that overlooks the greens and trees of Memphis' Overton Park.

I had to go to the Museum to view an exhibit for my online summer school art class-- I was very excited when I realized this was the perfect timing b/c Andy Warhol's exhibit was there. What a GREAT experience this was! I was able to see all the paintings and screenprints in living color. I'm so glad I went. It was worth every second. I can't wait to begin writing my paper about my experience. Collapse

I would so much like to support the idea of introducing art therapy in Uganda especially in the war ravaged areas of Northern Uganda where i happen to come from.I remember doing art therapy with Mutebi Fred and also visiting Hope north.During these interaction i was able to learn a lot from these children especially the former child soldiers. Most of the girls are raped, defiled and the boys have killed and this remains in their minds, and only art can make the change we would like to see in us,since these are the future leaders who are being ignored by the community. They need protection and care in order to re-establish normalcy and be part of the global community. However, those who come up to volunteer and help these children should stand by their objectives and avoid corruption when they get assistance from others to support their community based organizations.I got so touched and made my own illustrations and paintings after researching on Art therapy in the north, topic:WAR Collapse

This is by far one of the best pieces of art I have ever seen. The girl who made it must be an amazing artist; probably just an all around amazing person. She means the world to someone.
