Working together to make Memphis a richer, more vibrant city

ArtsMemphis owes special thanks to a number of groups and individuals who we consider to be “ambassadors of belief.” They share our passion for the arts and their vision and support have made this exciting new website possible.

In order to engage a broader base of arts supporters in the Memphis area, the Assisi Foundation of Memphis, Inc. has generously funded the Audience Development Initiative (ADI), being spearheaded by ArtsMemphis in collaboration with some 40 local arts and cultural organizations. The development of this interactive on-line arts calendar is a key component of ADI, and we thank the Assisi Foundation and its Board of Directors for partnering with ArtsMemphis to make this available to benefit the entire community. Through their support, and especially the vision and guidance of Dr. Jan Young and Karen Kitchens, we are all working together to make Memphis a richer, more vibrant cultural community for everyone.

The Board of Directors of ArtsMemphis, chaired by Gary K. Wunderlich, Jr., and our Marketing Committee comprised of Lisa Kranc (chair), Andy Dolich, Tom Owens, and Jonny Ballinger, have offered us their guidance and support in this project, and for this, and for all they do for us and for the community, we thank them.

We are also grateful to the boards and leadership of our arts and entertainment organizations and venues who are teaming with us to share information about the incredible offerings of concerts, museums, festivals, recreation, performances, classes, tours and everything else that makes up our world famous Memphis vibe.

Thank you also goes to the Tennessee Arts Commission and the Cultural Crossroads grant that provided some funding for the promotion of our calendar.

To all of our partners, ArtsMemphis wishes to say: your support matters!

Known around the world for its blues and rock and roll, Memphis has a recognizable special vibe. ArtsMemphis exists to nurture this unique character and to magnify the city’s creative voice. We are a 45-year-old arts funding organization (the sixth largest in the United States), which provides annual operating and project support to 23 arts groups and administers some 150 additional grants on a year to year basis. The ArtsMemphis tagline is “your support matters” and indeed it does. As major fundraisers, grant-makers and arts promoters in the city, ArtsMemphis contributed more than $4 million to the Memphis arts community in 2007, and it is a fact that 95 cents of every dollar raised in our annual campaign is directed to our funded organizations. ArtsMemphis builds partnerships among artists, arts groups, donors, educators and culture lovers throughout the city and region. Recognizing that a lively arts scene has a major economic impact and is essential to the quality of life in Memphis, ArtsMemphis is encouraging the entire community to interact with the arts like never before. The current enhanced website with its expanded calendar of events has been introduced with that goal in mind.
